Of all the exciting opportunities Belmont University students have, one of them is the chance for audio engineering students to record sound-alike projects in studios both on and off campus. I’m not an audio student, but they call me to play drums on their projects and it’s always a great time! This session, we recorded a sound-alike of Gretchen Wilson’s ballad, ‘Raining on Me’. For this session I used my beefy, 14×5.5 Aluminum Recording Custom Snare to get that birthday cake sound that fits so well in slower country songs like this one. A great song to sit and stretch out a bit, and see how you can manipulate the space within your playing. Let your fills be big and open, and although the groove is laid back, still carry forward momentum as if to get people dancing.
